It’s become a commonly asked question recently “How can I snoop on my kids’ cell phone?” and with all the online dangers around and news items about “sexting” etc. it’s no real surprise! Whether or not you should be snooping, per se, rather than simply telling them that their calls and texts (as well as their internet surfing and emailing) will be monitored by a concerned parent is up to you.
Either way, it can be done using a cell phone spying program. This is relatively simple app that you can download to the phone in the same way as other apps and games. It will actually hide itself within the phone also, leaving it up to the discerning parent as to whether they inform the child or not that they are being monitored.
Is it OK To Snoop On My Kid’s Cell Phone?
There are plenty of scare stories in the press about the legality of doing this, but as long as you own or have paid for the smart phone and long as you are the legal guardian to the child who is under 18, there really is nothing illegal about doing this. Indeed, many welfare and parent groups are now condoning and, in fact, backing this approach.
So where can you get such spy software for monitoring your child’s phone calls and texts? The easiest place is to simply purchase online. You’ll get an instant download (that you’ll need access to the target phone to perform) and you will also be given your secure online login for the area from which you can monitor the phone.
Having looked around at the plethora of cell phone monitoring programs, it’s difficult to recommend one over the other. This is simply because you get the most bang for your buck from a reputable and customer service driven supplier and they come and go like the wind. There are a number of less reputable services advertised online that have truly terrible feedback and quite often, simply don’t work.
Again, I don’t like to use the word “snoop” so let’s just go through what you can monitor, once this software has been downloaded to your kid’s cell phone.
The ability to see all inbound and outbound:
A) Text messages / sms / Blackberry BBMs / IMs
B) Phone calls, time of call, duration and number or contact called or calling
C) View all internet pages surfed
D) Read all emails sent or received via the cell phone
E) The ability to track the cell phone using GPS (when it is switched on)
With the Pro upgrade you can even listen in to the calls live or record them for later monitoring. This function also allows the phone to be used as a remote transmitter allowing you to listen in to anything going on in the immediate vicinity of the cell phone.
I’m not here to act as any kind of moral guide on this. I’m just telling you the facts. What you decide to do with this information is up to you, but there is a growing school of thought that is starting to wake up to the responsible monitoring of our children’s cell phone and computer use, and even the idea of doing this without them knowing is becoming all the more acceptable.
With this tech, the software works on almost any smart phone. Because of the operating system of iPhones, you should be aware that if you want to install on an iPhone you would need to “jailbreak” the phone first. This is a common technique used on iPhones to allow them to use software that is outside of that recommended by Apple. It is also a reversible tweak and will not damage the phone: More on jailbreaking here: http://lifehacker.com/5771943/the-always-up+to+date-guide-to-jailbreaking-your-iphone-ipod-touch-and-ipad-%5Bios-511%5D
The vendor sites are very informative so you can double check if the phone that you want to install it on is supported before you buy. There are also comprehensive installation guides supported with images and installation is quick and easy even for the non-tech savvy! If you are having any trouble at all their customer service are very friendly and helpful.
Best of all, unlike many other sellers of less reputable monitoring software, they offer a no-quibble full money back guarantee if you are not fully satisfied with the product. For a one-off fee of around $50 (using the current $100 discount!) you are getting the state-of-the-art monitoring system to help keep your child safe. A small price to pay, in my humble opinion.
